Interesting. Not only War&Peace, Anna Karenina are interesting, but Tolstoy's own life and his internal journey is also very interesting.
As to the contradictions, who doesn't have them?
But, I doubt the last paragraph about his motivation to write this book. I need to check, because Tolstoy himself is an adulterer and committed womanizer during his young days, which of course was not a big deal back then.
All said and done, In the later stages of his life, Tolstoy went through major changes in attitudes related with spiritual, moral & philosophical matters. I respect him.
